Drawing & Painting
This class is an introduction to the world of visual art. Students will get to try a variety of art media and will produce a number of fun and interesting projects. In the class, students will not only create art, but view, discuss, and write about artwork too. Students will learn basic art vocabulary to be able to discuss their own and others’ artwork. Students will also look at works of art from different time periods and cultures, while developing visual literacy skills that will help them to better understand and interpret the visual world we live in. This class in an important foundation for other advanced art classes. Students will be evaluated on daily effort, class projects, tests, and a sketchbook that will be maintained throughout the semester.

Tips for Success!
- You do not have to be a good artist to be successful in this class. If you are in class every day and you give a good effort, take time to thoughtfully plan your projects, and execute them well, you should be successful in this class!
- When you turn in a project, it MUST have a rubric with your name on it attached. You will get ONE printed rubric when we start the project, and if you lose it, you need to print a new one from my website to turn in with your project on time.
- Craftsmanship is a very important part of every project we do. Exercising good craftsmanship means we follow directions, we are intentional with what we make and how we make it, we are careful with how we use our materials, and we put a lot of effort into making our projects a good quality piece.
- Carefully read the rubric before turning in projects and read the requirements to get an A (I'm guessing you want an A). Compare the requirements to what you have made, and make any necessary changes. There is always something to improve!
- You are working in a studio with many other artists who would like their supplies to be where belong, and to be in good condition. Make sure to help clean up and take care of our supplies every day.
- You get 5 participation points for every day we have class. If you are on task and working, you can keep all 5 points, but if you are tardy, don't help clean, talk during instruction, aren't at your assigned table, or are off task, you will lose points. Unexcused absences will receive a zero for participation.
- Earn extra credit by visiting an art museum or gallery!
